COLCHESTER, Vt. – The New Haven women's volleyball team closed out its two-match road trip with a three-set sweep of Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon. With the win, New Haven improves to 14-7 overall and 7-1 in the Northeast-10.
Senior
Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) and junior
Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) each led the Blue and Gold on the afternoon as the pair finished with 13 kills apiece. Of the two, Nowicki posted possible the best hitting performance of her career with her 13 kills coming on 21 attempts without and error for an impressive .619 attack percentage. Greathead wasn't far behind with a .458 average as her 13 kills came on 24 attempts with a pair of errors.
Following the outside hitting duo offensively was junior
Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) who chipped in five kills, while sophomore
Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) and freshman
Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) each added three hammers. As a team, New Haven combined for 40 kills and a season-best.402 attack percentage with seven errors in 82 total attempts.
Leading New Haven to that remarkable hitting performance was the setting duo of junior
Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) and freshman
Sammie Paguia (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge). Of the pair, the rookie led the way with 22 assists while Chan added 13. Overall, the Chargers finished with 38 assists among their 40 total kills.
Defensively, the Chargers were led by rookie libero
Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford) who finished with 16 digs, the only player in the match to finish in double figures. As a team, New Haven also dropped in a season-high 14 aces, the most for a New Haven team since matching that number against American International in 2012. Leading the way individually was Guarniere who finished with four aces, while Chan and Greathead added three.
New Haven will return to its home state for its next match when they travel just five minutes from campus to take on crosstown rival Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, November 6. First serve from Pelz Gymnasium between the Chargers and Owls is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
