WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Behind a pair of double-digit performance from junior
Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) and freshman
Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), the New Haven women's volleyball team swept Assumption College (25-16, 25-16, 25-12) Tuesday night in its final regular season match at Charger Gymnasium.
The win for the Blue and Gold is the 11th win of the year on the home floor in 12 matches, and the third win overall in the last four. For Greathead, it is her 13th match of the year with ten or more kills, as she led all players in the match with 11. Barry closed out her night with 10 kills, while between the pair, Barry led the way with a .300 attack percentage.
New Haven finished the match with a .293 hitting percentage, with junior
Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) finishing with seven hammers for a .385 line, the highest among the Chargers hitters. Garden would also add four service aces to her totals, the most among her teammates who all combined dropped in 10 unreturned serves.
Leading the Blue and Gold to the .293 attack percentage was its setting duo of junior
Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) and freshman Sammie Perugia who finished with 21 and 15 assists, respectively.
Defensively, New Haven was paced by its freshman libero
Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford) who put up 12 digs, one of two players in doubles figures with sophomore
Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) adding 10 to go along with eight kills and a pair of aces.
The Chargers will close out the regular season on Thursday night when they travel to NE10 leading Bentley University for a 7:30 p.m. match at the Dana Athletic Center. Following that match, the top eight teams in the NE10 standings will advance to the conference championship with the top four teams hosting a first round match on Tuesday, November 19. With the win over Assumption, the Chargers secured one of those top four spots heading into the postseason tournament.
