Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Balanced Attack Leads Volleyball to Three Set Sweep of Stonehill

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – In a balanced effort across the offense, junior Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) led the way with 11 kills, and three Chargers registered double digit digs to help lead the New Haven women's volleyball team (15-8, 8-3 NE10) to a 3-0 sweep of Stonehill on Saturday afternoon at Charger Gymnasium. The three-set sweep of the Skyhawks is the third time this season the Chargers have swept a conference opponent.

Prior to the match, the Chargers honored their lone senior, Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview), as part of annual Senior Day festivities. Nowicki finished the match with seven kills and a pair of digs, putting her at 985 kills for her career.

Greathead's 11 kills were a match high and the only player from either team who would reach double figures. Freshman Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) followed her with eight kills, while sophomore Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) and junior Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) added six kills apiece to round out the offense. Among all the leading hitters, Barry would lead the way with a .500 hitting average as her eight kills came without an error in 16 total attempts. Greathead also finished the match with a .320 average as her 11 kills came on 25 attempts with three miscues.

Overall as a team, the Chargers hit .226 with the setting duo of freshmen Sammie Paguia (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) and junior Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) calling the plays. Paguia led the duo with a team-high 15 assists followed by Chan's 12. Paguia would combine those 15 assists with 12 digs for the only double double on the afternoon, while her 12 digs was tied for the team lead with rookie libero Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford).

New Haven will close out the home portion of its 2019 regular season schedule on Tuesday night when they host the Assumption Greyhounds at Charger Gymnasium. First serve in the regular season home finale is slated for 7:00 p.m.
