Softball Releases Schedule for Upcoming 2020 Season

WEST HAVEN Conn. – New Haven head softball coach Jen Starek has announced the team's schedule for the upcoming 2020 season. The schedule features 49 games, including 22 at the New Haven Softball Field, 26 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents, and four teams that qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division II Tournament. All NE10 matchups will be played as part of doubleheaders.

The Chargers will be making two early season trips down south, one to Florida in February, and one to North Carolina over Spring Break in mid-March.

SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Chargers will kick off the season at the Florida Tech Invitational with five games over the weekend of February 7-9 at the USSSA Space Coast Complex in Viera, Florida. The season will begin with two games on the 7th, one against reigning NCAA South Super Regional champion West Florida, and another vs. Palm Beach Atlantic, followed by two on Saturday vs. West Georgia and Florida Southern. The Sunshine State trip will conclude with a single game on Sunday morning against Angelo State.
  • After a one-month layoff, the season will resume with a trip to North Carolina for four consecutive days of doubleheaders, starting with a pair of games on Monday, March 16 against Shaw. After two games against Barton College on Tuesday, the Chargers will travel to UNC Pembroke on Wednesday, before wrapping up the trip with a double-dip against Francis Marion on Thursday the 19th.
  • Upon returning North, New Haven will jump right into Northeast-10 play with an eight-game homestand, beginning on Saturday, March 21 when they host American International, followed by two on the 22nd against Assumption.
  • A big regional clash awaits the Chargers on April 1 with a midweek trip to CACC power Caldwell.
  • New Haven will play six NE10 games in four days at home against Saint Rose (April 4), Le Moyne (April 5) and fellow 2019 NCAA Tournament regional qualifier Adelphi (April 7).
  • The Chargers will stay close to home on Easter weekend with a doubleheader at crosstown rival Southern Connecticut State on Saturday, April 11.
  • After traveling to Bentley and Stonehill on April 18-19, the Chargers will return home for a big NE10 test against a pair of NCAA tournament teams from last season in super regional qualifier Saint Anselm on April 24 and Southern New Hampshire on April 25.
  • The Northeast-10 Conference Tournament will get underway on April 28 with quarterfinal round action. The top two seeds in each division will earn byes to the Northeast-10 Championship weekend, which will take place from Thursday, April 30 through Saturday, May 2 and be hosted by the No. 1 seed from the Southwest Division.
New Haven is coming off a 33-16 (23-6 NE10) record in 2019, that saw them advance to the semifinals of the NE10 Tournament, and qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time in program history, where they advanced to the regional championship round.
