MANSFIELD, Mass. – Freshman pitcher Dominic Rutigiano's stellar performance on the mound against No. 8 Southern New Hampshire on Sunday has earned him Northeast 10 Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday.
Entering a scoreless game in the top of the third inning, Rutigliano fired 6.1 innings of shutout relief, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out two. He retired the first 13 batters he faced with ten of the 19 outs he recorded coming on ground balls. New Haven scored the game's only run in the bottom of the seventh for the 1-0 win, giving Rutigliano, who pitched into the ninth inning, his first career win.
This is the third major weekly award for the Chargers this season, following Matt Chamberlain's (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) Player of the Week award and Hunter Boag (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck)'s Rookie of the Week honor on February 25.
New Haven will return to action Wednesday afternoon at Pace.
