KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Junior guard Elijah Bailey (Freeport, N.Y./The Hotchkiss School), who led the Chargers in scoring at 19.2 points per game, added to his postseason honors on Monday when he was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II All-District First Team.
Bailey is one of 11 honorees from East District with the award honoring a total of 88 Division II men's basketball players across eight districts. Overall, Bailey is one of five Northeast-10 players to earn First Team honors in the East District with the five joined by Andrew Sischo from Daemen on the first team. The All-District teams are voted on by NABC member coaches across Division II.
Bailey's 19.2 points per game ranked seventh in the NE10, as he finished the season with a career-high 569 points, shooting 45.1 percent (217-of-481). Included was a team-high 68 three pointers, leading the Chargers to a new single season school record from beyond the arc for the second-straight year.
Overall, Bailey finished all but three games in double figures, closing out the season scoring double digits in the final 23 games. He increased his career-high for a single game on three different occasions, setting his best at home against crosstown rival Southern Connecticut State University with 32 points. During that same game, he also became the 32nd player in school history to join the 1,000 point club and closed out the season 25th in program history in career scoring.
Bailey and the Chargers finished the 2018-19 campaign with a 21-10 overall record, matching the most wins in a single season since the 1986-87 season. New Haven advanced to the NCAA East Region Championship for the third time under head coach Ted Hotaling, falling to the top seeded Saint Anselm Hawks in the semifinal round 70-69.
