WEST HAVEN, Conn. –The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team has moved up one spot to No. 16 in the IWLCA Coaches' Poll and holds its spot at No. 18 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division II Top 20. The Chargers went 1-1 this week with two strong performances against nationally ranked opponents.

The Chargers fought a tough battle at No. 2 Adelphi earlier this week, falling to the Panthers by just one goal. Gianna Guerra (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) had 14 saves after facing 23 shots and held Adelphi to less than 10 goals for the first time in nearly a year. The Chargers went on a six-goal run to come back from an early 4-0 deficit to take the lead before halftime. Despite a second half five-goal run by the Panthers, Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) and Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) each scored within the last two minutes to put the Chargers within one goal with 11 seconds remaining. New Haven was unable to tie the game and force overtime in the last minute of play.

On Saturday, New Haven took down No. 16 Merrimack, 20-15. Reh tied her career-high and program record of nine goals. She had two assists to finish with 11 points, also tying the program record of points in a game. Caroline Maher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) had four goals and one assist, while Julia Jette (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) finished with two goals and four assists for six points. Guerra recorded her fifth win of the season with nine saves in goal. The scoring went back and forth for a majority of the game, but the Chargers went on a 5-0 run in the second half to take a seven-goal lead. The defense played strong and would not let the Warriors come within less than four goals the entire second half.

Le Moyne holds its No. 1 ranking, once again receiving all 25 first place votes. Adelphi, Florida Southern, and West Chester remain locked at the second through four sports. Rollins moved into the fifth spot for the first time this season to round out the top five. This week, New Haven received 266 points in the poll.

The Chargers have a few tough battles on tap this week, once again facing two nationally ranked teams. On Wednesday, March 27th, the Blue and Gold welcome No. 1 Le Moyne to Kathy Zolad Stadium for a 4:00 Northeast-10 matchup. The Chargers will then travel to Worcester, Ma. to take on No. 20 Assumption on Saturday, March 30.
