WEST HAVEN, Conn. – After a 2-0 week, the University of New Haven women's lacrosse team jumped up three spots, checking back in at No. 16 in the IWLCA Coaches' Poll. New Haven also checks in at No. 20 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Journal Division II Top 20 Poll.
The Chargers started the week with a 13-9 win over then No. 16 Pace last Tuesday evening. Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) led the way with five points behind three goals and two assists. Six other Chargers also scored against the Setters as Samantha Galler (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township), Caroline Maher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield), and Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connequot) all tallied two goals, while Emily Holland (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) and Julia Jette (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) had one apiece. Jette also added three assists and finished with four points. Gianna Guerra (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) earned the victory in goal with eight saves. Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) had a season-high five caused turnovers. Linton and Reh both had five draw controls while Nolan collected four.
New Haven closed out the week with a dominating 17-5 victory over American International. Nolan scored a career-high six goals against the Yellow Jackets and finished with six draw controls. Reh also had six goals and an assist to finish the day with seven points. Skelly scored twice while Jette, Olivia Serpa (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) and Meredith Karsonovich (Hampton Falls, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) all tallied one goal. Karsonavich's goal was the first of her career. Jette and Grace Loeffler (Boca Raton, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) finished with two assists each, while Kayla Pjatak (Shelton, Conn./Shelton), Maher, Linton, and Holland all added an assist. Guerra recorded the win in goal as she had seven saves, only allowing three goals. Erica Rinsky (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) came in to close out the second half and had six saves, only allowing two goals. Linton had a team-high eight draw controls while Reh had four.
New Haven earned 215 points in the IWLCA poll this week. Le Moyne continues to hold its No. 1 spot, followed by Adelphi, Lindenwood, and LIU Post in the second, third and fourth spots. Rollins and Tampa are tied for fifth to close out the top five. Behind Le Moyne and Adelphi, New Haven is the third Northeast-10 team in the top 25. Assumption, Merrimack, Bentley and Pace, round out the NE10 teams in the top 25 at 17, 18, 19 and 20 respectively.
The Chargers hit the road for a midweek matchup at Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday, April 10. Opening draw at Penmen Stadium is slated for 3:30 pm. On Saturday, April 13 the Blue and Gold will return to Kathy Zolad Stadium for another NE10 matchup against Saint Michael's. Game time against the Purple Knights is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
