The New Haven baseball team will wrap up its 2019 season this weekend with two games at the College of Saint Rose. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN (11-23-1, 5-15-1 NE10, 2-12-1 SWD)
· The Chargers are winless over their last 12 games, which includes a 5-4 loss to Southern Connecticut and a 5-5 tie with then-No. 11 Adelphi earlier this week.
· Junior centerfielder Matt Chamberlain (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) leads the Northeast 10 with a .494 on-base percentage, is tied for second in slugging (.617), and ranks sixth with a .350 batting average. In conference play, Chamberlain is getting on base at a .479 clip and has 19 walks in 21 games.
· In NE10 play, Billy Huber (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) leads the Chargers with a .326 batting average and is second on the squad with a .396 on-base pct.
· Leadoff hitter Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) is riding a three-game hitting streak with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored over the last three games. The freshman leadoff man is hitting .255 this season with 22 runs scored and six steals.
· First baseman Andrew Garcia (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) is hitting .286 and is second on the team with 20 RBI.
· Junior righty Brendon Malouf (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) holds a 2.76 ERA through 14 appearances, issuing five walks and striking out 14 over 16.1 innings.
· Senior Christopher Leindecker (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) leads all starters with a 3.62 ERA in 13 appearances including six starts. He has allowed only 12 walks in 49.2 innings.
SCOUTING SAINT ROSE (11-24, 5-16 NE10, 4-11 SWD)
The Golden Knights are 0-2 this week and have dropped six straight to Division II opponents. Saint Rose came up on the short end of a pair of 3-1 decisions this week to American International on Tuesday and Southern Connecticut on Wednesday.
· Saint Rose is 10th in the NE10 with a .254 batting average.
· Senior Nicolas Teitter is hitting .358 on the season and is second with a .429 on-base percentage.
· Sophomore outfielder Stephan MacMeans holds a .330 average and is third on the team with 18 RBI.
· Junior infielder Andrew Pedone has drawn 29 walks this season while batting .294, and leads the team with a .447 on-base percentage.
· On the mound, the Knights hold a 6.07 team earned run average.
· Freshman Cameron Flynn has made six starts this season, issuing 15 strikeouts and 14 walks over 30 innings of work.
