Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Chargers Sweep Post 3-0 to Earn Coopers First Victory as Head Coach

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore outside hitter Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) drilled a match-high 13 kills while hitting better than 50 percent to lead the New Haven women's volleyball team to a three-set sweep of Post University (25-11, 25-7, 25-12) on Thursday night at Charger Gymnasium.

Fera's 13 kills were more than the entire Post offense on the night as the Eagles struggled to find a rhythm, hitting -.061 for the match with 12 total kills and 18 errors. Joining Fera in leading the New Haven offense was juniors Camille Greathead and Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) who finished with eight and seven kills, respectively.

As a team, New Haven hit .303 for the match, combining for 41 kills and just 11 errors in 99 total attempts. Among all the hitters on the evening, freshman Payton Reis (Royal Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach) led the team with a .571 attack percentage as she hammered five kills and suffered just a single error in seven attempts.

Providing the support to the Chargers offense were a pair of setters, junior Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) and freshman Sammie Paguia (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge). Chan led the pair with 19 assists while Paguia added 11.

Defensively, New Haven was led by rookie libero Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford) who racked up 14 digs, one of two players to finish with double figures as Fera completed her third-straight double double adding 13 digs. Overall, nine different players contributed on defense with Greathead following the double figure duo with nine digs.

The Chargers will continue a three-match home stand on Saturday when they welcome the Bloomfield Bears to West Haven. First serve from Charger Gymnasium is slated for 5:00 p.m.
