WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Trailing 2-1 entering the fourth set, the New Haven women's volleyball team rallied to take down Molloy and cap a thrilling five-set victory on Tuesday night at Charger Gymnasium. Four Chargers finished with double-digit kills, led by junior Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) with 15. Sophomore Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) and junior Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) added 12 apiece, and senior Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) totaled 11. Garden finished the match with a .375 hitting percentage and led the way defensively with six blocks, while Nowicki tallied four. The Chargers have now won three straight to improve to 3-4, while Molloy drops to 7-2.

Junior setter Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) (28) and freshman Sammie Paguia (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) (22) led the team in assists, while freshman Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford) totaled a match-high 27 digs.

Molloy used an 8-2 run in the first set to break open a tied game and take a 17-11 lead. The Chargers chipped away to get within two on three separate occasions before drawing within 23-22 after a kill by Greathead, but Molloy was able to hold on for a 25-23 victory.

The Lions started fast out of the gate in the second set with a quick 5-0 lead, and built a set-high six-point advantage with a 14-8 lead. The Blue and Gold responded with a pair of 6-0 runs, with the first one tying the score 14-14, then taking the lead for good with a 22-17 edge. Molloy got back within one point on two occasions before the Chargers finished off set point for a 25-23 win to even the match 1-1.

The Lions took a wild third set by a 25-22 final, scoring four of the final five points to take a 2-1 lead entering the fourth set.

New Haven held the lead throughout a closely contested fourth set before Molloy tied the score at 16-all. The Lions rallied to tie the set 24-24 and pushed it to match point with their first lead at 25-24, but the Chargers fended off the threat thanks to three consecutive kills from Greathead to win the set 27-25.

The Chargers broke a 4-4 tie in the decisive fifth set with a huge 7-1 run to cruise to a 15-8 victory. Kills from Nowicki and Greathead, and a huge block from Nowicki and freshman Payton Reis (Royal Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach) spurred the late surge.

Next up, New Haven will head down to Molloy for a weekend tournament this Friday and Saturday, when they will take on Lewis on Friday, and reigning regional finalist, Holy Family on Saturday.
