ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The University of New Haven volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to No. 5 Lewis on Friday afternoon at Molloy University. The loss snaps a three-game win streak for the Chargers which culminated with a key regional victory over Molloy on Wednesday night.
Leading the Blue and Gold against the Flyers was senior outside hitter
Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) who drilled seven kills as part of 25 total for the team. Joining her in leading the offense was junior middle blocker
Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) and freshman hitters
Payton Reis (Royal Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach) and
Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) who each dropped in seven kills. Both of the rookie's finished with just a single error in the match with Reis leading all the New Haven hitters with a .429 average as she took seven total attempts.
Defensively, New Haven was led by its freshman libero
Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford) who compiled 10 digs, the only player to register double figures. Following her was juniors
Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) and
Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) who each finished with seven digs, with Chan adding that to a team-high 10 assists. Garden and Nowicki also added a pair of blocks with the team registering four total.
New Haven will play one more neutral match in Long Island, taking on the Holy Family Tigers in a regional battle on Saturday. First serve against the CACC opponent is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
