MANSFIELD, Mass. – Junior
Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) has been named the Northeast-10 Women's Field Athlete of the Week following her performances at two different meets in the long jump over the weekend. Washington is the first member of the Charger women to earn a weekly NE10 award this indoor season.
Washington tallied a pair of podium finishes and hit two NCAA provisional qualifying marks, taking first place at Friday's William Sutherland III Invitational and third at the Yale Giegengack Invitational on Saturday. Her first place (out of 8) performance of 5.77 meters at the Sutherland Invite was a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark, as was her and her third place finish of 5.73 meters against an all-Division I field at the Giegengack.
Washington will enter this weekend's NE10 Conference Championships holding the top ranked long jump in the NE10 and the NCAA East Region thanks to her season-best leap at the Sutherland Invite. In addition to competing in the jumps, Washington also set a PR in the 200-meter dash with her 10th place finish of 27.21 at the Giegengack Invitational.
