Baseball Returns to Carolinas for Four Games this Weekend

FIRST PITCH
Following a strong 3-1 start to the season two weekends ago in Myrtle Beach, the Chargers will make their second and final southern trip of the regular season to Cary, North Carolina this weekend for four games, one each against Dominican (11 a.m.) and Clarion (3 p.m.) on Friday, Saint Thomas Aquinas at 5 p.m. on Saturday, and Molloy at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.

A live video feed will be available for the Chargers' matchup with Clarion on Friday afternoon, and live stats will be available for Sunday morning's clash with Molloy. The Dominican and STAC games will not have coverage.

SCOUTING NEW HAVEN (3-1, 0-0 NE10)
After dropping their season opener 6-3 to Felician on Feb. 22, the Chargers rebounded to earn a 7-4 victory in the nightcap of the doubleheader. The next day, the Chargers exploded for 32 runs in a sweep of Stonehill and then-nationally ranked No. 11 NYIT. The Chargers pounded out 19 hits in their win over Stonehill and clubbed three home runs, including a pair of grand slams from Robert Taylor (Wolcott, Conn./The Gunnery) and Hunter Boag (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck).

Regionally, New Haven surged into the NCBWA East Region rankings last week at No. 5, and moved up one spot in this week's poll to No. 4.

SCOUTING DOMINICAN (0-6, 0-0 CACC) - HISTORY
The Dominican Chargers will open up their southern trip against New Haven on Friday morning at 11 a.m. Freshman Bryan Parzyck is hitting .667 (4-for-6) through his first four collegiate games, and Billy Rotella (.400) and Ryan Ruziecki (.381) lead the team's offense while each having played in all six games. On the mound, junior righty Jaden Diaz-Lambert enters the weekend with 11 strikeouts and nine walks in 9.1 innings over two starts this season.

Historically, New Haven is 10-3 against Dominican and has won the last four matchups between the two, with the most recent coming in a 9-1 win last March in Cary.

SCOUTING CLARION (1-9, 0-0 PSAC) - HISTORY | LIVE VIDEO
Clarion enters the weekend 1-9 overall and will open their southern trip with a matchup against Fairmont State on Friday morning before facing the Chargers at 3 p.m. The Chargers and Hawks met for the first time last season in Cary, with Clarion prevailing 5-4 after picking up a pair of eighth-inning runs.

Thomas Lavin and Alex Ficorilli are the only two Hawks batting over .300 through the team's first 10 games, leading a team that is batting a combined .241. Lavin and Chandler Palyas (.238/.256/.381) tie for the team lead with six runs scored and Lavin leads the squad with seven RBI. Bryan Layton has yet to allow a run in five innings out of the bullpen, striking out 10 batters and holding opponents to a .118 batting average.

SCOUTING SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS (3-3, 0-0 ECC) - HISTORY
The Chargers and Spartans will finally get to square off after last week's scheduled doubleheader at Frank Vieira Field was postponed. STAC is off to a 3-3 start to the season and has won two of its last three games.
Brian Donnelly is off to a hot 7-for-17 (.412) start at the plate and leads the Spartans with three doubles. Sophomore infielder Andrew Jemison (.353) has drawn a team-leading seven walks en route to a .542 on-base pct.

Senior right hander Angelo Baez has struck out 18 batters in 11.0 innings while allowing just four earned runs over two starts.

SCOUTING MOLLOY (5-2, 0-0 ECC) - HISTORY | LIVE STATS
Molloy joined the Chargers in the NCBWA East Region rankings this week at No. 8 on the heels of three wins in a row over the last week.
