THE LEAD
For the second game in a row, the New Haven field hockey team will play under the lights at DellaCamera Stadium on Tuesday night when they welcome the Saint Thomas Aquinas Spartans to campus looking for its third straight win following back-to-back shutouts of SCSU and SNHU. All of the action, will kick off at 7:00 p.m. and can be seen live on the Charger Sports Network on NE10 NOW using the link to the right.
SERIES HISTORY VS SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS
New Haven and Saint Thomas Aquinas meet for just the second time in the history of the two programs with the Blue and Gold looking to avenge a 2-1 overtime loss to the Spartans when they met for the series opener in 2019. This also marks the second-straight time the two teams have met in West Haven and comes just four days short of falling on the exact same day as two years ago.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
New Haven has all the momentum on its side entering Tuesday night following back-to-back shutouts against Southern Connecticut and Southern New Hampshire. Those two clean sheets are the fourth and fifth for the Chargers and their starting keeper Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) who racked up 12 saves across the two games and currently has 61 to her credit, playing every minute in the cage for the Blue and Gold. For the season, 11 different players have found the back of the cage, led by Schreck who has now scored five times and also assisted on a pair of goals for 12 points total. Following Schreck are a trio of players who have scored four goals; seniors Reilly Bialko (Shickshinny, Pa./Northwest Area) and Alexis Rider (Delran, N.J./Delran) and freshman Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional). Following that trio is senior Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) with seven points on two goals and three assists. Bialko also leads the team with four assists.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
One of three teams from the ECC who are associate members of the NE10 for field hockey, Saint Anselm enters Tuesday with a 2-4 record in conference play and are also riding a two-game win streak into DellaCamera Stadium with their wins coming over Mercy and American International. The win over Mercy is the second of the season against the Mavericks with the first not part of the conference schedule. For the year, STAC has scored just seven goals, while surrendering 25 to their opponents. The seven goals have come from five different players, with two leading the way, each with a pair; senior Lauren Cooper and freshman Nicola Van Vuuren. In goal, senior Jessie Hohenstein has started and completed every game, collecting 83 total saves.
INTEGLIA NAMED NE10 GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
After recording her fourth and fifth shutouts of the season, graduate goalkeeper Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford)scored her first NE10 weekly honor when she was named the Goalkeeper of the Week by the league office on Monday. Across the two games last week, Integlia racked up 12 saves, including six in the opening game against crosstown rival Southern Connecticut and four more in the home win over Southern New Hampshire. THE 2021 SCHEDULE
The New Haven Field Hockey team kicks off its fourth season in the history of the program with seven of its first nine games at home, part of an 18-game schedule that makes up the 2021 campaign. A total of 11 of the Chargers 18 games will come on the home turf at Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium. Following the regular season, the top eight teams in the conference standings following regular season qualifying for the NE10 Championship, which opens with a quarterfinal match-up on Nov. 2 at the home sites of the four highest seeds. The semifinal and championship matches will also take place at home sites on Nov. 5 and Nov. 7, respectively.
CHARGERS NINTH IN PRESEASON POLL
Entering their fourth season as a varsity program, the New Haven field hockey team has been picked to finish 9th in the 2021 Northeast-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Chargers return to the field for the first time since the 2019 campaign when they finished with five victories, all of which came in NE10 action. New Haven finished the preseason voting with 87 points, the most they have earned in the preseason poll, keeping them inside of the top-10 for the first time. Saint Anselm earned the top billing, scoring 11 of the 15 possible first place points for a total of 190 points. Assumption and Adelphi split the remaining first place tallies with Assumption earning 171 points and one first place vote to finish second and Adelphi earning 163 points including three first place votes to finish third overall. Rounding out the top-five was a pair of teams tied for fourth place with 146 points, Stonehill and Southern New Hampshire.
