How it Happened
Prior to day two of the CSI Tip Off Tourney, the last time the Chargers (2-0) put up over 100 points was at Stonehill last season in the 101-100 their triple-overtime event. However, this afternoon the Blue and Gold clenched a 101-52 victory in just 40 minutes of play.Â
The first points made their way to the scoreboard after a scoreless three minutes when Kendall McMillan (Columbia, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) made his way through the paint for a layup.Â
Midway through he first half New Haven's offense shook the arena carrying a 15-0 run. Starting things off was Sean Smith Jr's three-point swish. Tying the knot was Antonio Lopez (Medford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) with a back-to-back dunk and three-point crime.Â
Lopez, a senior forward, finished the afternoon raking in a new career-high of 21 points. His previous 13-point high occurred at Concordia back in the 2019-20 season.
Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie), yesterday's point leader, hit five three's alone in the first 20 minutes. The junior let the ball go from behind the arc on seven occasions in the first half.Â
Ted Hotaling and his crew headed to the locker room holding a 30-point lead over the Saint's. Their massive point differential extended throughout the second half of regulation, at one point leading by 49 just seconds before the final buzzer sounded.Â
