How it Happened
It was a night of many firsts Sunday evening in Charger Gymnasium. New Haven (88-69) holds a 1-0 record over the Chestnut Hill Griffins in their series premiere. Secondly, Tavin Pierre Philippe (Brooklyn, N.Y./Baldwin High School), transfer guard from Stony Brook, made his first court-appearance as a Charger with 20 minutes of court action.

Philippe had a stellar off-the-bench performance for his first game in blue and gold. The sophomore put up 12 points and grabbed four boards to help assist the Chargers in their fourth non-conference win of the season.

New Haven ended a 12-4 run with 12:30 left in the first half, which concluded with Antonio Lopez (Medford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) taking possession away from James Rider, who found Olawoye downcourt who dunked the ball through the net.

Rowland, the graduate guard from New York, completely led the offense in the first half of play. He finished with 20 points and shot 5-of-6 in the first 20 minutes of action, he only saw the floor for 15.

At the halftime buzzer, the Chargers walked out holding 18 points over the Griffins heads. They only committed two turnovers and shot 57 percent from the field.

After the break the Chargers grabbed their largest lead of the game, 23 points, with 16:54 left to go. Olawoye rebounded Nigel Haughton's missed three-point attempt, sprinted down the court and hooked in a layup of his own.

Olawoye was absent from the starting five the past two games but increased productivity by assisting three baskets.

New Haven never lost sight of their lead, they held onto their advantage over the Griffins for just slightly under 38 minutes and walked out with their seventh win of the season.
