FULL 2021 SCHEDULE
WEST HAVEN, Conn. – University of New Haven head softball coach Jen Starek has announced a 38-game regular season schedule for the 2021 campaign, her 15th season at the helm of the Blue and Gold.
This announcement comes in light of the Northeast-10 Conference's recent announcement from the Council of Presidents to proceed with a spring sports season. All scheduled games are subject to change based on COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
The NE10 has adopted a divisional format for 2021 – Northeast and Southwest – with all programs slated to play a 24-game conference schedule. Series will consist of four games on weekends in doubleheader format, while schools maintain the ability to extend the weekend series to three days or alter the days in which they play in accordance with academic calendars. New Haven will play in the Southwest Division which is made up of seven teams including Adelphi, American International, Le Moyne, Pace, Saint Rose and Southern Connecticut.
A playoff structure and dates of a postseason conference tournament are in development and will be released at a later date.
The New Haven softball team will open its 2021 campaign with three straight non-divisional home dates, starting out with a cross-divisional visit from Stonehill College on Saturday, March 13. One week later, the Chargers will welcome the perennial Northeast Division leader Saint Anselm to West Haven for a two-game set on March 20.
The season-opening homestand will come to a close with the lone non-conference opponent found on the full schedule, Molloy who will come to town for a mid-week doubleheader on March 25.
The Chargers will then turn to NE10 Divisional play when they spend the next two weekends in the Empire State, first visiting Le Moyne College in Syracuse for back-to-back doubleheaders on March 27 and 28. The following week, the Chargers will split their doubleheaders against Adelphi, playing the first on Thursday, April 1 and the second on Saturday, April 3.
Rounding out a stretch of five road dates will be the first half of the crosstown rivalry divisional battle with Southern Connecticut State University with the visit to Pelz Field set for Wednesday, April 7.
New Haven will return home for its next five dates, the first two coming on April 10 and 11 as they welcome American International to West Haven for a pair of doubleheaders. The Chargers will then take a break from games that count towards the divisional standings with another meeting against Adelphi, this one coming on the New Haven Softball Field on April 14. A pair of doubleheaders against Saint Rose will follow on April 17 and 18.
Once again, the Chargers will step away from games counting in the standings with another meeting against American International as the Blue and Gold will head to Springfield for a mid-week doubleheader on April 22.
The divisional series started earlier in the season with Southern Connecticut will come to a conclusion as the Chargers will once again visit Pelz field on Saturday, April 24, before the Owls take the trek to West Haven for a doubleheader on Sunday that will not count towards the divisional standings.
That home date with the Owls begins a series of four-straight home dates that close out the regular season. Following SCSU will be a cross-divisional match-up with Bentley on April 29, before the Chargers close out the season with a visit from Pace on April 30 and May 1.
All home games will be broadcast live, for free, on the Charger Sports Network on NE10Now.TV. Additionally, live stats will be provided with links available at NewHavenChargers.com.
