FULL WEEK 4 REGIONAL RANKINGS
WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The New Haven softball team remained steady at No. 5 in the latest NCAA regional rankings announced by the organization on Wednesday afternoon. The latest release will be the final ahead of the NCAA Division II Championship announcement next week with the NCAA East Region Championship hosted by Saint Anselm slated to begin on Wednesday, May 19.
With the newest set of rankings including games through May 10, New Haven was one of three Northeast-10 teams among the top-eight. Georgian Court (33-4 overall record) took the top spot in the regional rankings, followed by Saint Anselm (27-4) in second.
Adelphi (27-6), who will battle Saint Anselm for the NE10 Championship this weekend, while the East Coast Conference's Molloy College (29-14) came in one spot ahead of the Chargers. Bridgeport (20-7), STAC (24-11) and Caldwell (20-11-1) complete the top-eight teams with the top-six set to make up the East Region Championship in 2021.
The 2021 Championship will begin on Wednesday, May 19 with the top two seeds earning a first-round bye as the third seed would take on the sixth seed and the fourth and fifth seeds would meet up in opening round games.
Leading the Blue and Gold into the postseason is junior pitcher Ava Fitzmaurice (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) who is fresh off of earning NFCA All-East Region First Team accolades after earning NE10 Southwest Division Player of the Year honors last week. The junior pitcher ranks among the top-10 in the nation in earned run average, leading the NE10 in overall wins and top-four in the league in batting average.
