THE LEAD
The University of New Haven men's soccer team will officially kick off their first home game of the 2021 season under the lights at Kathy Zolad Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 8 against Bloomfield at 4 PM. This will be the Charger's first home game since their 2-0 victory over Bentley on Nov. 6, 2019.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Wednesday's matchup will be only the third all-time between the Chargers and the Bears. The two teams are currently tied 1-1 in the all-time series. The Bears won the last game against the Chargers with a 1-0 victory on Sept. 8, 2007 in West Haven. Click here for a complete series history.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (1-0, 0-0 NE10)
The Chargers began the season ranked 10th in the NE-10 Coaches' Preseason Poll. Now after one game down, the second season under head coach Brian Quinn is off to a great start as New Haven heads into the matchup with a 1-0 record after an impressive 4-3 win over in-state rival Bridgeport. The Charger's offense was led by Pau Santanach (Barcelona, Spain/Collegi CreaNova), who scored two goals in last Thursday's matchup including the game winning. Adding to the triumphant effort on offense was Francisco Guedes (Lisbon, Portugal/Maristas de Carcavelos) and Alvaro Ezpeleta (Vigo, Spain/Colegio Amor de Dios), who each scored a goal and Tano Desseno (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Patrick College), who tallied a pair of assists in the contest. On the defensive end, despite not having a save in the first half, freshman goalkeeper Themis Kastoris (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasiet) stepped up and helped lockdown the victory with four second-half saves.

SCOUTING THE BEARS (1-0, 0-0 CACC)
Bloomfield College enters the game with just one game played, a 3-2 win over Assumption College. The Bears were scheduled to kick off their season against The College of Saint Rose but the game was canceled due to inclement weather damage. The Bears were tied for 10th in the CACC Preseason Coaches's poll. Bloomfield finished 4-12-1 (3-8-1 CACC) during the 2019 season, going 0-8 while on the road. The Bear's roster is a young squad, composed of 15 freshmen, three sophomores, five juniors and five seniors. Didier Orellana enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Bloomfield Bears men's soccer team. Orellana enters the game with a 24-25-3 record during his time with Bloomfield.

NEXT UP
The Chargers will start their two game road trip in Jersey City for a matchup with the Nyack Warriors at Laurel Hill Park. Kick off for that game is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7 PM. Live stats and live video will be available for all games.
