WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The New Haven women's rugby team broke a 7-7 halftime draw with a pair of second half tries and a conversion while holding UConn off the board to secure a 19-7 win in game two of a round robin with the Huskies and Bowdoin at DellaCamera Stadium. The Chargers dropped their opening match of the day to the Polar Bears 21-10.

In the first match of the day, the Polar Bears broke out to a 14-10 lead before the Chargers were able to get on the board when Sydney De La Cruz broke through in the 22nd minute for her first try of the afternoon. Bowdoin answered back with a try and conversion, while New Haven would see its second try came in the 35th minute when Megan Aronoff (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater Raynham Regional) found her way over the try line.

In the second match of the day against UConn, the Chargers would strike first when Serenity Beasley (Selma, N.C./Clayton) converted the first try of the game in the 10th minute with De La Cruz making the ensuring conversion for the early 7-0 lead.

The Huskies managed to tie the game right as time expired in the first half, but it was all Chargers in the second half with a pair of tries from Damaris Williams (Higganum, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) and Lala Guimaraes, the later of which as she broke through and streaked two-thirds of the length of the field over the try line. De La Cruz was able to send the second conversion attempt of those two tries through for the final margin of 19-7.

New Haven will next take the field for a neutral-site match against Davenport on Saturday, October 29 with an 11:00 a.m. start scheduled at IMG Academy on the campus of Indiana Pennsylvania University.
