ALLENDALE, Mich. – University of New Haven Women's Track and Field jumper Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) represented the blue and gold at the NCAA Division 2 Championships. The championships were held May 26-28 in Allendale, Michigan at the Grand Valley State Track & Field Stadium with a total of 754 participants, 377 men and 377 women, competing in the championships.
Washington represented the blue and gold in the sand pit competing in the triple jump. With a mark of 12.40 meters Washington was the 19th seed in the event. Washington jumped that mark in South Carolina at the beginning of the season jumping at the Alan and Connie Shamrock Invitational Meet at Myrtle Beach.
After watching the first day of the meet, Washington got her chance on Friday to compete in the pit. After an opening foul Washington followed that jump up with a mark of 11.15 meters she followed that up with a jump of 11.30 meters. That would be the final mark for Washington who finished 23 in the field with the final mark of 11.30 meters.
Washington now returns to Connecticut having represented New Haven at Nationals and being the most recent member to wear the blue and gold at the National Championships. The last woman to represent the blue and gold was Riley Knebes who qualified in the 400 meter dash and finished fifth overall.
