EASTON, Mass. – With the regular season over it was time for the conference championships held at Stonehill College. Following a successful Indoor season and regular season the Women's Track and Field Team looked to make some noise and add to their collection of postseason accolades. Entering the team was picked to finish eighth by the coaches but the team looked to be even higher than that at the end of Saturday with the completion of the relays.
In what had been her event all season, Neva Bostic (Saint Johnsbury, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) continued that success in the Championships taking home the crown for Javelin. Having won five straight meets during the season in the event Bostic was the top seed and showed that when it was her time to throw. Opening up with a throw marked at 36.24 meters, Bostic set the bar for the field and she would only raise the bar as she continued to throw and warm up. Bostic followed her first mark up by throwing 36.44 meters on her second followed by 37.50 meters and moving into the finals for the event. In the finals, Bostic raised the mark even higher, throwing 38.58 meters, besting her previous mark by over a meter and solidifying the win for herself. That throw would be the winning throw for her claiming the gold medal for the event and the win for the blue and gold in the meet.
Jalynn McCown (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) would join Bostic taking home a medal from the Championships, winning hers in the weight throw. McCown entered as the second seed in the event and with just one throw found herself in the top three in the battle for a medal. McCown on her first throw, threw 44.42 meters moving her into second place in the field. That would be McCown's best throw and would keep her in second place until the end when she would be narrowly beat out moving her into third place taking home the bronze medal.
As a whole the team finished with two medals and 52 points to finish in seventh place overall in the conference, finishing above where they were projected to be in the coaches poll. With the first part of the postseason complete the team now turns their attention to New England's next weekend where the pressure and competition will be even greater but the rewards will be even sweeter. New England's will be held and Bryant University and the team will look to their postseason accolades next week.
