USTFCCA All-ACADEMIC ATHLETE RELEASE
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Following a spring campaign that included qualifying for the NCAA Division II Nationals in Allendale, Mich., senior jumper Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) added to a plethora of awards on Wednesday when she was received All-Academic honors from the University States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
In addition to the individual honor, the women's track & field team was also distinguished as an All-Academic Team after posting a combined grade point average of 3.18 combining the fall 2021 and spring 2022 semesters. Overall, New Haven was one of 147 teams to earn the distinction, including one of eight programs representing the Northeast-10 Conference.
A health sciences major, Washington earned her undergraduate degree in January of 2022 and began pursuing a Master of Public Health this past spring. Overall for her career, she combined for a 3.62 grade point average as an undergraduate.
On the track, led all jumpers, earning one of 24 spots in the NCAA Division II National Championships. The senior hit a season-best mark of 12.40 meters early in the spring at the Alan and Connie Shamrock Invitational, with that distance holding as the second best in the east region throughout the outdoor season. Overall, Washington never finished outside of the top-three in both of her spring events – triple and long jump – in for different meets, including taking home first place honors four times, twice in each event.
