WORCESTER, Mass. – Continuing on the road, in their last match before the Conference schedules begins, the University of New Haven Women's volleyball team look to stay perfect against the Greyhounds of Assumption University in their first of two matches with Assumption on the year, this being a non-conference matchup before the two teams meet later in the year for the conference matchup.
Series History
In the 14 match history of these two teams, New Haven has never lost and have only ever dropped two sets to the Greyhounds. Last year New Haven traveled to Worcester and won 3-0. This is the first of two meetings in the season with this first one being a non-conference matchup before later in the year the Greyhounds traveling to West Haven for the conference matchup between the two teams.
The Chargers and Greyhounds traded the first two points of the match, but it was the Chargers going on a streak of nine straight points that included multiple kills from Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) and Avery Moore (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community High School), and a service ace from Itzel Cruz (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame) to give the blue and gold the early lead in the first set and they never looked back from that. The Chargers never trailed and responded to the Greyhounds four straight with a matching four straight of their own with kills from Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) and Avery Moore (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community High School). The Chargers finished the set off with a kill from Avery Moore (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community High School) to take the first set 25-14 and go up 1-0. The second set was more domination for the Chargers as the blue and gold opened up with three straight to take the early lead with Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) picking up a kill. Things were close until the Chargers put together another dominant streak this time of six straight forcing errors on the Greyhounds and Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) and Avery Moore (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community High School) all picking up kills in that streak. Macy Brown's (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) kill put the set to set point before forcing an error to take the second set 25-14. In the pivotal third set, the blue and gold opened up just as they did in the second with three straight to open up the set. Later in the set the Chargers put on another six straight which started with a kill from Avery Moore (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community High School) and capped off by a kill from Amihan Johnson (Tacoma, Wash./Fife High School). Johnson then finished off the set for the Chargers with a kill to win 25-18 and win the match 3-0. Avery Moore (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community High School) led the blue and gold with 12 kills followed by 10 kills from Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy). Sophia Leon-Tabor (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) added 31 assists and Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) had 15 digs for the Chargers who remain perfect against the Greyhounds.
