WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's rugby team began season two as a varsity program on Saturday when they welcomed the West Chester Golden Rams to Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium for the programs first 15's match. West Chester, who was the national runner-up a year ago, took a 66-0 decision against the Chargers who stand at 0-1 on the season.
The Golden Rams opened up the scoring less than two minutes into the action with Heather Spangler providing the first of her team-best three try's, all of which came in the opening half. Seven different players completed try's, with the only other player to do so twice Brooke Crago who scored once in each half.
Also among the leading scorers was Sarah McNicholas who knocked in six conversion kicks for 12 total points.
New Haven will return to action on Monday, September 26 when they welcome American International, last season's national championship team, to DellaCamera Stadium. Opening kickoff against the Yellow Jackets is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
