Chargers Success Continues: Sweep Greyhounds on the Road

WORCESTER, Mass. – Looking to stay perfect in conference play and match their longest win streak of the year the University of New Haven Women's Volleyball Team traveled to Worcester to take on the Greyhounds of Assumption University in their first of two matches for the week.

The Greyhounds were the ones that put the first points on the board and had an early lead but New Haven wasted no time getting a lead and keeping it. The Chargers traded with the Greyhounds but an eight point Charger scoring streak that included a pair of aces from Rilee Jessee (Edinburgh, Ind,/Columbus East) and a pair of kills from Grace Juergens (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) to take a hold in the opening set. Following that streak New Haven never let Assumption back into the set closing the door on the set with back to back kills first from Katherine Rank (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa) followed by Peyton Mast (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) finishing the set with a kill winning it 25-18. In the second set things were closer after New Haven took the opening two points as both teams traded going back and forth but after a rally of four straight to the blue and gold Assumption called a timeout that ended up helping the Chargers late push as they scored four of the final eight points of the set taking the second set 25-19 going up 2-0 in the match. In the third with the possibility to sweep and head back home early the Chargers jumped out on the front foot early with a Peyton Mast (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) kill and a pair of aces from Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac). That was the spark New Haven needed never looking back extending their largest lead to eight through the middle of the set never letting Assumption get back into the set. New Haven would go on and close out the set and match with a Juergens kills to win the set 25-15 with their largest margin of the set and winning the match in straight sets 3-0. Grace Juergens (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) led all scorers with 15 kills posting a double double with 15 digs. Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) finished with 11 as the freshmen duo of Rank and Mast each had seven. Michelle Henwood (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) continued her distribution success notching 38 assists as Rilee Jessee (Edinburgh, Ind,/Columbus East) had 16 digs

The Chargers now return home looking to keep the dominance going as they take on the Eagles of Post University in a nonconference matchup on Thursday night.
