MANSFIELD, Mass. – Graduate quarterback Connor Degenhardt (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) has proved time and time again that he was the best in the NE10 on the field, now he has extended that success beyond the field and into the classroom, earning the Northeat-10's Sport Excellence accolade for football.
One of seven awards representing the NE10's 2022 fall sports, the Sport Excellence Award is presented to a student-athlete who has started at least half, or played in two-thirds, of all contests while making significant contributions and maintaining a minimum 3.3 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Degenhardt, who is pursuing a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in strategic leadership sports a 3.98 grade point average following this past fall. He adds the Sport Excellence honor to NE10 Academic All-Conference distinction which was presented earlier this month. This is the first time New Haven has had a football player earn the distinction and the first player since Jessica Akiona received the distinction for volleyball following the 2021 season.
On the field, Degenhardt was named NE10's Offensive Player of the Year after leading the NE10 with a passer rating of 162.6 and 28 touchdown passes during the regular season. Including the Chargers NCAA playoff game against Shepherd, Degenhardt threw for 2,251 yards and 29 touchdowns, while he also ran in six touchdowns.
