Boca Raton, F.L. – The University of New Haven baseball team continued their six-game winning streak with a single game win against Lynn University in an early morning game on Saturday afternoon. Andrew Cain's (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) offensive efforts helped push New Haven ahead as Michael Gatti (East Norwich, N.Y./Oyster Bay) recorded his third win on the season.
Lynn 2, New Haven 5
After starting the game with a 1-2-3 inning, Thomas Eletto (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley) took the mound for the third time this season looking to even the score against the Fighting Knights. After letting up an RBI double with one out, Eletto found his way out of the crunch to keep the score to a minimum going into the second inning.
New Haven continued to look to even the score but would not find the equalizer until the top of the third. Starting in the inning off with a leadoff single by Owen Pincince (North Haven, Conn./North Haven), Pincince would round the bases all the way home on an RBI single to right field from Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell). The bats would continue with a double from Andrew Bianco (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park), and a single from Andrew Cain (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) giving the Chargers the lead 2-1.
Great pitching from both teams would keep the scoring to a minimum, until Lynn would find the equalizer in the fifth. The game would remain tied at two until Andrew Cain (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) smacks a double to right field, scoring one. Tyler Wells (Danville, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) with the sacrifice fly would bring in Cain advancing the Chargers lead to two.
The last run from the Chargers would come in the top of the eighth. Once again Andrew Cain (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) would find himself another single to right field, stealing his way around the bases to score the last run of the game for the Chargers.
Thomas Eletto (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley) would end the game surrendering one run on two hits over four and a third innings, striking out three. Michael Gatti (East Norwich, N.Y./Oyster Bay) would record his third win of the season on the mound. The righthander lasted two and a third inning, allowing four hits and one run. Liam Carroll (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) would come out of the bullpen to throw the last two and a third innings in relief.
Andrew Cain (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) led the Chargers with three hits in four at bats, scoring twice with two RBIs. The Chargers would tally a total of nine hits on the game, Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) and Tyler Wells (Danville, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) both gathering an RBI on one hit.
