Boca Raton, F.L. – The University of New Haven baseball team defeated Molloy College 7-3 this afternoon on the campus of Lynn University. With the win the Chargers improve to 9-2 on this season.
Molloy 3, New Haven 8 (9 innings)
The Chargers looked to freshman Randy Ramnarace (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) for his second career start to right the ship for New Haven. The Lions wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the first inning, but Ramnarace fought his way to minimize the damage to only one run.
Andrew Bianco (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) kicked things off for the Charger's side of the inning by hitting a single ground ball to the third baseman. Bianco would advance to second on a wild pitch and find himself sitting comfortably at third on that same pitch. The Chargers would get their first run after Andrew Cain (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) roped a single to center field. Tyler Wells (Danville, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) would find himself a single on a ground ball to center advancing Cain to third. The Chargers would continue cashing in runs on another wild pitch and an RBI single from Josh Lester (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague).
Ramnarace had himself a 1-2-3 inning by forcing a fly out on the first batter, putting one away and then forcing a ground out to end the inning.
Trying to advance their lead the Chargers would find themselves at a three-run advantage off a single from Robert Taylor (Wolcott, Conn./The Gunnery). Ramnarace would find himself with a few base runners but would find himself out of trouble keeping the Lions of Molloy to one run over two more innings.
Molloy would find their way back in the game at a one run deficit on a homerun in the top of the 6th, but that would be the end of the offensive efforts from the Lions. New Haven would find their last runs of the game on 2-RBI double from Josh Lester (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) and an RBI single from Kenneth Franquiz (Bellmore. N.Y./Mepham).
Randy Ramnarace (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) got the win for the Chargers, going for four innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out two. Tyler Sausville (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie Central) and Drew Silverman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
The Chargers racked up 11 hits on the afternoon. For the fifth time this season Andrew Cain (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) lead the Chargers in hits, today going four for five at the plate, with two doubles and two singles, as well as scoring three runs. Alongside him was Josh Lester (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) who went two for four at the plate, with a double and a single.
