Bats Stay Hot as Chargers Defeat Bridgeport 8-1

West Haven, C.T- After being on the road the Chargers came back to their home field for a visit from the 195 rival Bridgeport this afternoon. Coming off a huge win from New Haven against Adelphi and their past sweep of Bridgeport this year, the bats stayed hot putting the Chargers above the Purple Knights in their first home game of the season.

Bridgeport 1, New Haven 8 (9 Innings)

After completing the sweep against Bridgeport in their second trip to Myrtle Beach, the Chargers looked to advance their win streak to five against the Purple Knights. Graduate Thomas Eletto (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley) started on the mound for New Haven, letting up a leadoff single, but forcing two fly outs and a fielder's choice to end the inning.

The Chargers once again wasted no time getting on the scoreboard to start off the game. With two gone Andrew Cain (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) stepped up to the plate and knocked one over the right field fence, giving the Chargers the lead. New Haven favored right field as three back-to-back singles were hit to the right side. Owen Pincince (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) starting off that run, followed by Robert Taylor (Wolcott, Conn./The Gunnery) and Josh Lester (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) who grabbed an RBI before the inning was over.

Despite some movement from Bridgeport in the first inning, Eletto kept the energy up with two back-to-back 1-2-3 innings for the righthander.  The next two innings would keep the Chargers at a standstill, until the bottom of the fourth where New Haven was able to snag another run on a sacrifice bunt from Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell).

It would be a two-run inning for the Chargers in the fifth, Andrew Bianco (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) with a leadoff walk eventually scoring on an error from the Bridgeport centerfielder and a sacrifice fly from Owen Pincince (North Haven, Conn./North Haven). The Chargers would round out their scoring with another in the sixth, and two in the seventh.

Michael Gatti (East Norwich, N.Y./Oyster Bay) would enter the game at the top of the sixth, facing some adversity but coming through with a strikeout to keep Bridgeport to only one run. The righty would go for two innings, retiring the side in both of those innings. Drew Silverman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) would enter to close out the game, forcing a ground out and striking out two to put the Purple Knights away.

Thomas Eletto (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley) earned the victory on the mound for New Haven, allowing three hits and one run over five innings, striking out four and walking one. The Chargers would collect a total of 14 hits on the afternoon. Graduate Josh Lester (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) leading the way for New Haven with three hits in four at bats. Owen Pincince (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) also went two for three at the plate, collecting two RBIS, and Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) would also snag two RBIS for the Chargers.
