Springfield, M.A.- Coming off a five-game win streak, the Chargers looked to continue their momentum going into a single game on Tuesday, however the Yellowjackets would get a first inning lead, putting them above the Chargers despite a comeback effort.
American International College set the pace for the game, retiring the side in order from the Chargers first at bat. Continuing their momentum from the first inning, the Yellowjackets fired up an offense in the first inning, pounding out three hits, as well as forcing four walks and one hit by pitch to load the bases. By the end of the inning, despite a pitching change for the Chargers, the Yellowjackets managed to gain a seven-run lead going into the second inning.
From then on the Chargers would be looking for a comeback effort, finding their first run of the game in the top of the second from an RBI single from Kenneth Franquiz (Bellmore. N.Y./Mepham). The game would remain 9-1 up until the fourth inning, where the Chargers would lead off with a single from Owen Pincince (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) putting runners on the basepath. An error from the Yellowjackets on a ground ball from Cam McGugan (Mystic, Conn./Fitch), would put runners on first and third. With Kenneth Franquiz (Bellmore. N.Y./Mepham) up to bat, his second single of the afternoon would give the Chargers another lone run.
American International would find their final two runs in the bottom of the fifth but would be shut out the rest of the game from the blue and gold's bullpen. Kenneth Franquiz (Bellmore. N.Y./Mepham) was a terror to get out, stepping up for his third at bat of the game, already going two for two thus far, and sending one over the right field fence. Once again, Franquiz would bring in another run for the Chargers on an RBI single to right field, and the Chargers would grab their last run of the afternoon on an RBI single from Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell).
Randy Ramnarace (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) took the loss on the afternoon for the Chargers, after a hard first inning. Kyle Allen (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood), Liam Carroll (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa), Mason Glickman (Windsor, Conn./Windsor), and Bryan Pazulski (Media, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) would all come in for relief out of the bullpen throughout the nine innings.
Kenneth Franquiz (Bellmore. N.Y./Mepham) was on fire today, going four-for-four at the plate, with three singles and one homerun. Franquiz drove in four of the five RBIs on the afternoon, leading the way for the Chargers offensively. Freshman Owen Pincince (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) also collected multiple hits on the afternoon, going two-for-four at the plate, scoring two runs for the blue and gold.
