BOSTON, Massachusetts. – In their second to last meet of the outdoor season, the University of New Haven Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams traveled to Boston to compete at the Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational track meet hosted by Northeastern University.
Wenka Vil (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) took home the Charger's first win in pole vault beating out teammate Molly Clark (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) in the event. After clearing 2.45m on her final attempt, Vil needed just one warmup attempt at 2.60m before she cleared that on her second attempt finishing her with the win in the event.
Gabrielle Teel (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) took home the blue and gold second win in the triple jump finishing with a final mark of 10.90m. Teel who opened up with an opening jump of 10.39m added distance to all of her next marks, gradually getting better before jumping her winning mark on her sixth attempt jumping 10.90m for New Haven's second win.
New Haven added to the win column taking first and second in the men's triple jump as Jonathan Cineus (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) and Kenneth Holland (Circleville, N.Y./Pine Bush) went one, two in the event for the blue and gold. Holland bested Cineus on the first two jumps with Holland jumping 13.55m and then 13.63m to take the top spot in the event. Cineus would on his final jump landing his winning mark of 13.90m and passing Hollands then best mark of 13.63m. Cineus's jump of 13.90m won him the event with Holland finishing second with a mark of 13.63m.
In the 400m hurdles it was a Chargers sweep as Jordan Emile (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton), Elijah Chong, and Nathaniel Peters (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) all took the top spots in the event. Emile took home the win crossing in 56.41, followed by Chong with a time of 58.04 and Peters finished third with a time of 58.26.
In the men's 110m hurdles, the Chargers finished second and third as Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) crossed just ahead of teammate Jordan Emile (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton). Dely finished with a time of 14.44 and Emile crossed with a time of 15.20.
Alexandra Kenealy finished second overall in the 3000m Steeplechase crossing with a final time of 12:30.91.
Savannah Sistrunk (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences) finished second overall in the women's 100m dash crossing with a final time of 12.97. Sistrunk added to her afternoon, with a second-place finish in the 200m dash crossing with a time of 26.39.
Jason Lorent (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) finished second overall in the men's 100m dash finishing with a time of 11.03. Adding to his afternoon, Lorent finished second overall in the 200m dash with a time of 22.44.
The women's 4x100m relay team of Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse), Kalaya Fitch (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial), Mariama Diakhate (Hamden, Conn./Hamden), and Savannah Sistrunk (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences) finished second overall crossing with a time of 51.52.
Neva Bostic (Saint Johnsbury, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) returned to the field and finished third overall throwing the Javelin. Bostic after fouling her first throw rebounded with a mark of 33.89 meters(m) on her second throw. She quickly followed that up with her third place mark of 35.54m climbing her up the standing and finishing with the third-best throw of the meet against division one and two competitors.
Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) returned to the sand pit competing in the long jump. Washington after fouling her first two jumps, Washington jumped 4.77m as her first official mark. She would go on to increase her mark on her next two jumps and would jump her best mark of 5.55m on her final jump finishing her second overall for the meet.
Nile Colson (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) finished third overall in the men's 400m dash crossing with a time of 50.70.
Cole Parker (Severn, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) finished third overall in the men's long jump with a final mark of 6.36m. After an opening jump of 5.75m, Parker increased his mark with each jump before coming down on his final jump, Parker landed his mark of 6.36m to finish him in second place overall in the event.
Kalaya Fitch (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) finished third overall in the women's 400m dash crossing with a time of 1:01.37.
Diana Zamudio (Huacho, Peru/Instituto Particular Abdon Calderon (Ecuador)) finished third overall in the women's high jump. Zamudio cleared opening height of 1.45m on her first attempt. Moving to 1.50m, Zamudio narrowly bumped the bar on her first attempt, before clearing with ease on her second attempt. That height would finish Zamudio in third overall in the event.
Nathaniel Peters (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) finished third overall in the men's high jump with a final height of 1.78m. Peters just hit the bar on his first two jumps before clearing it with ease on his final jump on that height. Peters would attempt at 1.83m and almost cleared that height on his final attempt but the bar came down finishing him third overall with a height of 1.78m.
Mohammed Abunar (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) finished third overall in the 1500m run crossing with a final time of 4:13.09.
The Chargers now with one final meet left in the regular season travel to Philadelphia Pennsylvania to compete at the Penn Relays in the final warmup ahead of the Conference Championships. New Haven looks to qualify any last competitors they can and get final marks going into the Championships that begin in May. The Penn Relays kick off on Thursday, April 29, and wrap up on Saturday, April 29. All updates, schedules, and post-game recaps for the team will be available at Newhavenchargers.com.
