West Haven, C.T.- New Haven was just recently ranked number 16 in the National College Baseball Writers Association rankings after a 6-2 start in conference play, before going into the single home game versus the Cougars of Caldwell. After nine innings of play the Chargers took the win over the Cougars.
Graduate Thomas Eletto (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley) started on the mound for New Haven, where he made quick work of the top of the order, striking out two of the three batters he faced. After the Chargers went down with only one batter on base from a walk, the Cougars were able to find two runs off the righty in the second inning.
New Haven would find their way back in the bottom of the second. Matt McIntire (Williamston, N.J./Williamstown) forcing a walk to give the Chargers a base runner. Shaun Callahan (Newington, Conn./Newington) would find himself at first on a fielder's choice, then later scoring on a single to center field from Kenneth Franquiz (Bellmore. N.Y./Mepham). Â
Eletto would have himself another 1-2-3 inning, before the Chargers would find the tying run in the bottom of the third. The inning would once again start off with a walk to give the Chargers a base runner, then a single from Owen Pincince (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) to left field. Matt McIntire (Williamston, N.J./Williamstown) up at the plate would hit a single to the shortstop, advancing Cole Maucere (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) home for the tying run
The Chargers would have a five-run inning in the bottom of the fourth. Kenneth Franquiz (Bellmore. N.Y./Mepham) with the leadoff single, would bring Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) up to the plate. Budzik would lay down the punt right in between the third base line and the pitcher, finding himself safe on first base. Runs would be scored off a sacrifice fly from Cole Maucere (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon), a single from Robert Taylor (Wolcott, Conn./The Gunnery), a walk, and a pass ball.
 New Haven would score one more run off an error by the catcher, before having themselves another five-run inning led by graduate Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell). After Josh Lester (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) would hit an RBI single to left field, Budzik would clear the bases on a triple to right field, bringing the lead to eight. The last run of the inning would come in when Budzik would steal home on a wild pitch. Â
Michael Gatti (East Norwich, N.Y./Oyster Bay) was the winning pitcher for the Chargers, going two innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out four and walking one. Gatti is now 1-0 on the season. Thomas Eletto (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley) started the game for the Chargers, lasting three innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out four and walking one. Brayn Pazulski, Mason Glickman (Windsor, Conn./Windsor), Kyle Allen (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood), Matthew Minio (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), and Christian De Risi (Hempstead, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) all came out of the bullpen in relief for the Chargers.
New Haven collected thirteen hits on the afternoon, with multiple Chargers finding multiple hits. Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) led the way for the Chargers going 2 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs. Robert Taylor (Wolcott, Conn./The Gunnery), Matt McIntire (Williamston, N.J./Williamstown), Kenneth Franquiz (Bellmore. N.Y./Mepham), and Shaun Callahan (Newington, Conn./Newington) would all find multiple collect two hits to lead New Haven this afternoon.
