West Haven, C.T- Freshman Matt McIntire (Williamston, N.J./Williamstown) went yard twice to power the University of New Haven baseball team past the Felician University Golden Falcons, 9-5. The Chargers continuing their offensive power after ranking No. 16 in the country. Maintaining only one loss at home and pushing to a 20-5 record on the season.
McIntire's home runs resulted in four RBI and also scored a team high of two runs for the Chargers. Andrew Bianco (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) also had a pair of hits, as well as one shot to left field that matched McIntire with crossing the plate twice, as well as gathering three RBI for the blue and gold. Senior Robert Taylor (Wolcott, Conn./The Gunnery) and graduate Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) each knocked in one run for a single RBI.Â
Graduate Izaiya Mestre (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) got the start on the mound and earned his third win of the season, with five innings of work and four strikeouts. After Freshman Tyler Sausville (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie Central) entered the game out of the bullpen, pitching for three innings, recording six strikeouts.
Felician caught the Chargers off-guard early, putting up two runs in the top of the second inning. Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) followed with a two out single to center field, scoring one to minimize the lead to one. The Chargers would find their momentum in the bottom of the third when Matt McIntire (Williamston, N.J./Williamstown) went yard to the opposite field to bring in three. From then on the Chargers would break away from the Golden Knights, eventually bringing in nine runs to end the game.
