FULL NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE RELEASE

MANSFIELD, Mass. – For the second straight season, a New Haven freshman has wrapped up a major Northeast-10 Conference award with Marielle Colalillo (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) leading a half dozen Chargers who earned All-Conference accolades as the freshman was tabbed NE10 Rookie of the Year as announced by the league office.

Colalillo joins fellow Charger Raegan Bailey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) who earned the same honor last season with the pair part of a trio of Chargers to earn the top rookie accolades (Maureen Spellman, 2009). The Manhasset, N.Y. native closed out her inaugural season with the Blue and Gold racking up 48 points in the regular season on 38 goals and 10 assists, with her points and goals both third best on the team. Colalillo, four-time NE10 Rookie of the Week, closed out the regular season with four or more goals in each of the last five games, which included a career-high five in the regular season finale against Bentley.

In addition to her major award, Colalillo was also named to the NE10 All-Conference Third Team and the All-Rookie team to wrap up a hat trick of honors. A pair of Chargers earned spots on the All-Conference First Team with Bailey earning a spot on attack and Laura Agbayani (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) earning a defensive honor. Two more Chargers were recognized on the All-Conference Second Team with graduate transfer Savannah Ernst (American Fork, Utah/American Fork) one of six attackers on the list and goalkeeper Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) picking up the honor at her position. Rounding out the All-Conference distinctions was Summer Castiglione (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) who joined Colalillo on the All-Rookie squad.

Bailey and Ernst wrapped up the regular season one-two on the team in scoring with Bailey leading all Chargers with 71 points on 46 goals and a team-high 27 assists. Ernst followed just behind her with 68 points, leading all scorers with 50 goals and adding 18 assists.  Both Bailey and Ernst finished the regular season among the top-eight in the NE10 in goals scored, while Bailey's 27 assists was sixth most in the league following the regular season.

Buscemi, who started every game between the pipes, closed out the regular season with 160 saves which led all Northeast-10 goalkeepers and comes on the heels of her being named the NE10 Goalkeeper of the Year and All-Conference First Team a year ago. Overall, Buscemi closed out 10 games with double figure stops, including a series of seven straight games which included her season-high of 15 against Assumption (April 19).

Defensively, Agbayani helped lead the Chargers to an 11-6 record in the regular season, and a three-way tie for fourth place in the NE10. For the season, she finished fourth on the team with 15 caused turnovers while securing 19 ground balls and a pair of draw controls.

Starting all 18 games in the midfield, Castiglione finished the season with eight points on six goals and a pair of assists, while also finishing among the team leaders defensively with 16 caused turnovers, 18 ground balls and 10 draw controls.

After dropping a 14-11 decision to Adelphi in the quarterfinal round of the NE10 Championship, the Chargers will await a potential at-large bid for the NCAA Division II Championship with the selection show slated for Sunday, May 8 at 8:30 p.m. Heading into Selection Sunday, the Chargers were ranked fourth in the East Region.
