West Haven, C.T- Having split the opening doubleheader with Le Moyne on Friday, the Chargers looked to grab two more wins to finish off the regular season series. After honoring the eleven seniors who have been with the program anywhere from four to six years, the Chargers would end up taking two hard losses.Â
Game 1: Le Moyne 13, New Haven 4 (7 Innings)Â
With Tyler Sausville (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie Central) starting on the mound the Dolphins would find their first run off a double to center field. However, the Chargers matched the energy putting two on the board with two back-to-back singles from Andrew Bianco (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and Andrew Cain (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford). Another single from Owen Pincince (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) would clear the bases and give the Chargers a one run lead.
Back and forth the game would be matched, up until the fifth when the Dolphins would find themselves with a seven-run lead. Le Moyne would extend their lead to 11 by the end of their side of the sixth inning.
The Chargers looked for a comeback in the top of the seventh, finding a lead off walk from Andrew Bianco (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park). Andrew Cain (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) would follow with a single to the Le Moyne shortstop to move Bianco to second. With two on, Robert Taylor (Wolcott, Conn./The Gunnery) would come up to the plate looking to drive home two. A line drive from center field would be tossed back in quickly, but Taylor moved the baserunners putting the bases loaded. Owen Pincince (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) would be up next, grounding into a fielder's choice, scoring one. Another ground out would find the Chargers another run, this time from Tyler Wells (Danville, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy), shortly before the game would end on a fly out to centerfield.
The struggle to contain the high-powered offense of Le Moyne lead to the loss for Tyler Sausville (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie Central) on the rubber. Sausville went for innings, allowing six runs on five hits and striking out three. Kyle Allen (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood), Kevin McNiff (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), and Mason Glickman (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) each contributed in relief for New Haven.Â
The Chargers racked up ten hits, Andrew Cain (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) and Robert Taylor (Wolcott, Conn./The Gunnery) both having multiple hits. Andrew Cain (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) was the team leader today at the plate going three for four in game one. Â
Game 2: Le Moyne 9, New Haven 1 (9 Innings)
After a tough loss in game one, the Chargers looked to Izaiya Mestre (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) who has been one of the Chargers go to pitchers throughout the season to take on the start of game two. Mestre stepped on the mound determined to change the narrative of the afternoon, retiring the side in order.
In the top of the second inning Le Moyne would find their first run off a double to right field, however that run would be answered promptly by the blue and gold. Shaun Callahan (Newington, Conn./Newington) would get things started for New Haven, hitting a single to right field, later scoring off a double from Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell).
It would not be until the top of the sixth that the score would change on either side, Le Moyne taking a one run lead off another double. Shortly extending that lead to two in the top of the eighth and finding another in the top of the ninth.
The Chargers were unable to find themselves another run the rest of the afternoon, and a hot ninth inning would extend Le Moyne's lead 9-1, shortly before their closer would record the last three outs to end the season for the blue and gold.
Izaiya Mestre (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) took the loss for the Chargers, surrendering two runs on five hits over six innings, and striking out five. Bryan Pazulski (Media, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) came in to pitch the last few innings for the Chargers out of the bullpen.Â
Multiple Chargers managed to find themselves a hit on the afternoon, those being Robert Taylor (Wolcott, Conn./The Gunnery), Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell), Josh Lester (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague), Shaun Callahan (Newington, Conn./Newington) and Andrew Cain (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford).
