GARDEN CITY, New York. – Returning to the court the University of New Haven Volleyball team took the trip down to Adelphi University to compete in the Panther Invitational. With a pair of matches scheduled during the trip the Chargers tipped off their tournament with a matchup against the Hawks of Quincy University who were coming off a matchup against Daemen University, the Chargers second matchup of the tournament.
The blue and gold started strong opening up the first set rallying off the first three point of the set with two being kills, one from Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) and the second from Katherine Rank (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa). After the Hawks went on a run through the middle of the set New Haven mounted their comeback as Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) and Kylie Reynolds-Martin (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) combined for back to back kills, but it was the Hawks taking the first set and the lead in the match. In teh second set, the blue and gold stayed close to the Hawks but never got the big run that they were looking for as Quincy took the second set and took the lead in the match two sets to none. In the third set New Haven Michelle Henwood (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) gave New Haven the early lead with a kill. It would be Quincy that would close out the set taking the third set and the match 3-0. Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) led New Haven with eight kills and 11 digs as Tori Borton (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) added 13 assists in the match.
The Blue and Gold will be back in action at the Panther Invitational as they take on Daemen University on Saturday September 16 with tip off scheduled for 12:30 pm for their final road game as the Chargers will make their much anticipated debut at Charger Gymnasium after the match.
