RINDGE, N.H – After a dominant home stand where the University of New Haven Women's Volleyball team went 2-0 and improved their win streak to four, the Chargers were back on the road for a conference match up with the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University.
Off the bus, New Haven set the tone early as Amber Williams (Lilburn, Ga./Brookwood) got the scoring going with a kill to open up the set. From that point, forward it was all New Haven never trailing in the set and out attacking Franklin Pierce in the kills column, 12-4. After Sofia Kamke (Santa Catarina, Brazil/Escola Tecnica do Vale do Itajai) set up set point with a kill, New Haven won the opening set off an attack error, 25-18 and up 1-0 in the match. In the second set, New Haven opened up on an early run by Kamke that once again set the tone early and once again put New Haven above and never looking back. The Ravens made a late run in the set but timeout by head coach Ana Pego, iced the server as New Haven won 25-22 in the second set and were up 2-0 in the match. In the third New Haven looked to take care of business and put the Ravens away early, and a quick 8-1 run to start the set made that a step easier. After another Raven timeout, New Haven was back to work as Kamke got New haven to match point before a bad set gave New Haven the final point they needed. Sofia Kamke (Santa Catarina, Brazil/Escola Tecnica do Vale do Itajai) led the attack with 14 kills, as Tori Borton (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) had 17 assists as Payton Malinoski (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) had nine digs.
With five straight sweeps and five straight wins, New Haven will look to make it six and carry the momentum back at home for a non-conference match up with the Mavericks of Mercy on Tuesday, October 22 with first serve scheduled for 7:00 PM from Deborah Chin Court at Charger Gymnasium and on the Charger Sports Network on FloCollege. All updates, schedules, and post-match recaps for the team will be available at Newhavenchargers.com.
