PLEASANTVILLE, New York. – Coming off their loss to the Falcons at home, the University of New Haven Volleyball team looked to get back on their winning ways as they traveled to New York for their final road match of the regular season as they took on the Setters of Pace University.
Off the bus New Haven arrived to send a message, and after Pace's attack error that was blocked by Grace Juergens (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) and Amber WIlliams to put New Haven on the board, Payton Malinoski (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) picked up the Chargers first kill of the match. Up early New Haven continued to score often and in bunches, as they never let Pace settle into the match and gain any ground. Just as they had opened the scoring in the first, New Haven once again blocked the Setters at the net as once again Williams was there along with Peyton Mast (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) to take the first set 25-19. In the first set, Williams, Mast and Naliah Grannell (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) each had two kills to set the scoring early for the Chargers. The second set saw more of the Chargers pull away that was led by an early 4-0 run that saw another block for Juergens and Williams along with a kill by Juergens to go up early. The Setters closed within one forcing the Chargers to use a timeout and regroup, but as they had done all season out of breaks, New Haven came out strong and an ace by Malinoski set up, set point and New Haven forced the attack error to extend their lead in the match to 2-0 with their 25-17 win led by the five kills by Sofia Kamke (Santa Catarina, Brazil/Escola Tecnica do Vale do Itajai). It was deja vu for the Setters in the third as once again New Haven never let the home team get their feet set and the Chargers took the lead early and never looked back giving them anything. The Chargers closed out the set on a 3-0 run that was won off a Pace attack error as New Haven won the set, 25-17 behind the lead of Williams and Kamke who each had five kills in the final set. Overall New Haven would win the match 3-0, and were led by Kamke with 11 kills, Tori Borton (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) added 17 assists, and Malinoski had 18 digs in the match.
