Chargers Close Out Weekend with Victory in Series Finale

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – After dropping the first two games of the Northeast-10 Southeast Division Series against the Pace Setters, the New Haven baseball team closed out its weekend on the road with a 7-1 win over the Setters on Saturday afternoon. With the win, New Haven stands at 12-13 on the season and 4-4 in the NE10.

In the Saturday afternoon win, the Chargers racked up 11 hits with four players finishing with multiple base knocks. Leading the way was first baseman Matt McIntire (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) and left fielder Owen Pincince (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) who each finished with three hits which came on four at bats with each scoring a pair of runs. McIntire also added an RBI which came on a solo home run in the third inning.

Designated hitter Sean Callahan led the squad driving in a trio of runs, going 2-of-4 at the dish. He also scored twice. Rounding out the leaders was rookie third baseman Joseph Frazzetta (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) who finished 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.

On the mound it was the rookie southpaw Vincent Fusco (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay East Fishkill) who earned the victory, throwing six innings allowing just a single run on four hits with three walks with a pair of strikeouts. Out of the pen, junior Randy Ramnarace (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) closed out the game to secure his first save of his career, throwing three innings without allowing a hit. Ramnarace faced just one batter over the limit with four strikeouts.

Overall for the weekend, McIntire had the hot bat as he finished with two or more hits in all three games to close out the weekend 7-of-12 at the plate adding one more RBI which came during the opening game on Saturday. Frazzetta also added three more hits to his credit for the weekend, closing out the series 5-of-11.

On the bump, it was the starters that suffered the losses with Liam Carroll (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) picking up the loss in the opener on Friday and Michael Gatti (East Norwich, N.Y./Oyster Bay)  the loss in the first game on Saturday. Of the pair, Gatti put up the best numbers with 10 strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Northeast-10 Conference action will continue for the Blue and Gold as they head back across town for the middle game of the three-game series against the Southern Connecticut Owls on Tuesday, April 2 with first pitch at The Ballpark at SCSU set for 3:00 p.m.
