GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The New Haven baseball team got to the Adelphi starters early and forced him out of the game after recording just four outs en route to earning an 8-5 victory to open the three-game road series against the Panthers. New Haven and Adelphi will continue the series on Saturday with first pitch slated for 12:00 p.m. With the win, the Chargers improve to 20-20 on the season and 12-10 in NE10 play.
On the mound it was junior starter Liam Carroll (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) who earned the victory, pitching 6.2 innings, including allowing just a single run through his first six innings of work. Overall for the game, he allowed five earned run on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Matthew Minio (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) threw 1.1 innings out of the pen while graduate closer Drew Silverman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) closed out the game with a 10-pitch ninth inning that included a pair of strikeouts as he earned the save on the bump.
At the dish, a pair of Chargers finished with two RBI apiece as sophomore short stop Aedan Forde (Massapequa Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) led the way with his two RBI coming on two hits in four at bats. Classmate Owen Pincince (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) joined him with two RBI as he finished 1-of-5 at the plate. Three additional Chargers drove in runs with Mat McIntire, Cam McGugan (Mystic, Conn./Fitch) and Cole Maurcere all knocking in a single run, with Maucere's coming on a solo home run.
Joining Forde in leading the team with two hits was Maucere and McIntire. Of the trio, Maucere led the way with his two hits coming on three at bats with a walk and he scored two run. Overall, the Chargers finished with a 9-8 advantage in the hit column.
