BOX SCORE 2 COLCHESTER, Vermont. Completing their home stand for the regular season, the University of New Haven Softball team finished their regular season on the road up north as they first took on the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College in their second to last series of the season.
Breanna Kinney (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) got the start in the circle and looked to carry the momentum of her previous three starts into the game. The Purple Knights however pushed the first run across early scoring in the first inning, plating a pair before adding another in the second and fourth to lead New Haven by four runs. The blue and gold began to chip away in the sixth inning as Bella Chenet (Plantation, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) led the inning off with a double on an 0-1 pitch that was driven into the left center gap. With one out. Lauren Haversat (Seymour, Conn./Seymoour) put the ball on the infield and reach on an error that scored Chenet who never stopped running and Haversat advanced to third on the play. Brianna Trueman (Trout Run, Pa./Montoursville Area) singled and advanced to second on a throw to set up two on with only one out for Kylie Thorpe (Taunton, Mass./Taunton). Thorpe singled into left center scoring Haversat and Trueman as New Haven made it a one run game, 4-3. The Purple Knights however would score a run in the home half of the inning taking game one 5-3 over New Haven as the Chargers looked to bounce back in game two of the double header. Viana McKinley (North Chesterfield, Va./Monacan) got the start in game two against the Purple Knights bats that woke up following game one as Saint Michael's played five runs in their first two innings against McKinley. The Purple Knights would add runs in the fourth and fifth as New Haven kept battling with Skylar Griffin (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) who came on in relief slowing the Purple Knights bats. In the seventh down to their final out Halle Frederick (Green Lane, Pa./Quakertown) singled to keep the inning alive before Bella Lagattolla (Hudson, Mass./Assabet Valley Regional Tech) doubled to right center scoring Frederick and putting New Haven on the board. The Chargers bats combined for four hits, one from Meg Anderson (Cranston, R.I./Cranston) and two from Halle Frederick (Green Lane, Pa./Quakertown) who also threw out a runner in the sixth inning along with Lagattolla's RBI double in the seventh, but the blue and gold would fall 7-1.
