Baseball Falls in NCAA Opener, Will Face Post Friday Morning in Elimination Game

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – The New Haven scattered nine hits throughout the game but came up short in its opening round game against the No. 2 seed and host Molloy Lions 6-0. Despite the loss, New Haven remains in the hunt for an East Region Championship in the double elimination format bracket. The Chargers will return to action in an elimination game on Friday morning when they take on the Post Eagles with first pitch set for 11:00 a.m.

Leading the Chargers on the day was sophomore first baseman Matt McIntire (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) who finished 3-of-4 at the plate, one of which went for extra bases, while Tyler Wells (Danville, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) followed him with a pair of hits which came on three at bats. The remaining four hits came from different players, including one additional extra base hit from Aedan Forde (Massapequa Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist).

On the mound, rookie starter Vincent Fusco (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay East Fishkill) suffered the loss, falling to 5-4 on the year. Fusco allowed three earned runs on four hits and a walk in seven innings of work. He also struck out three. Out of the pen, Christian De Risi (Hempstead, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) threw the final inning of work, allowing three runs on two hits.
