NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After a split weekend the University of New Haven Women's Track and Field Team returned to the track competing for a conference crown at the Northeast 10 Conference Championships as they made the short drive to Southern Connecticut State University for the meet.
Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) broke the NE10 record and jumped an NCAA Divison 2 Provisional mark en route to her gold medal winning mark of 6.01m. Washington as well set the New Haven record in the event. Washington's big weekend continued as she took home the gold in the triple jump with her mark of 12.04m which was also a provisional mark.
In the 100m dash, Savannah Sistrunk (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences) and Jada Kamtha (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls) each ran personal records as Sistrunk took home the silver medal in the even crossing in 11.97 and earning eight points for the blue and gold as
Kamtha crossed in 12.26 finishing fourth overall earning five points.
Kamtha would add points for the Chargers and win the bronze medal in the 100m hurdles crossing in 14.48 earning six points as Aniya Bush (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) ran a personal best in the event crossing in 15.58 finishing seventh overall winning a pair of points.
Sistrunk continued her success adding a bronze medal in the 200m running yet another personal best in the event crossing in 25.07 and winning six points.
Micaela Owen (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross) ran a personal best in the 400m earning two points with a seventh place finish crossing in 1:01.13.
Isabella Bostic (Saint Johnsbury, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) finished eighth overall earning one point in the 400m hurdles crossing in 1:12.22.
Jalynn McCown (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) took home the gold in the Hammer Throw, throwing a personal record mark of 48.27m claiming the gold medal and ten points. Isabelle Robinson (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) added a pair of point with her mark of 42.82m in seventh place.
Jada Kamtha (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls) finished fifth overall in the long jump with a mark of 5.50m ahead of Gabrielle Teel (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) who jumped a personal best of 5.38m.
Madeline Grey added a pair of points with her seventh place finish in pole vault, clearing 2.35m.
Isabelle Robinson (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) finished fourth overall in short put throwing 11.45m and earning five points ahead of Ashley Craig (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) who threw a personal record in fifth place with a mark of 11.32m and winning four points. McCown threw a season best in the event to finish eighth with a mark of 11.21m.
Gabrielle Teel (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) finished fourth overall in the triple jump with a mark of 11.30m to earn five points.
The women's 4x100m relay team of Deja Harris, Jada Kamtha (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls), Aniya Bush (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown), and Savannah Sistrunk (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences) ran a season best to take home the silver medal crossing in 47.66.
Overall the Chargers compiled 117 points and finished third overall. Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) set a new school and conference record in the long jump and had a pair of provisional marks to lead the way for New Haven. Washington would also be named the Women's Field Athlete of the Year by the conference.
With strong performances against the conference, the Chargers now prepare for the New England Championships in a week when they compete against the best in the region at Hart Turf Field and Track in Worcester, Massachusetts with the first day beginning on Friday, May 10 and the final day on Saturday May 11.
