Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Chargers Tame Lions, Sweep in Straight Sets

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The road trip continued for the University of New Haven Women's Volleyball team as the non-conference test continued with a trip to Lakewood, New Jersey to take on the Lions of Georgian Court University.

Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) set the tone early for New Haven picking up her first kill and the first point of the match. Peyton Mast (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) joined the kill part getting New Havens second point of the set before Brown went back to back with kills. That early streak set the tone as New Haven would go up 23-9 and would go on and win the opening set 25-16 fending off the late run by the Lions. The momentum continued for New Haven into the second set as an early 6-0 run again set the tone with Grace Juergens (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) leading the way with kills. To close out the second set, Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) got the blue and gold to 23 before an attack error set up set point before Evelyn Kay Girard (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich Academy) won the set with an ace to win 25-18 and go up 2-0 in the match. In the pivotal third set, New Haven once rolled as they took the lead and never gave it back to Georgian Court as Brown and Sofia Kamke (Santa Catarina, Brazil/Escola Tecnica do Vale do Itajai) picked up big kills down the stretch before it was a kill by the freshman Hannah Adderly (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Nova) who won the match for the blue and gold with a 25-16 third set win and 3-0 win in the match. Grace Juergens (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) led the attack for New Haven with 13 kills posting a double-double with 12 digs as Tori Borton (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) dished 24 assists for New Haven.
