NEW LONDON, Conn. – After a quick turn around, the University of New Haven Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams were back to work staying closer to home traveling to New London, Connecticut to compete at the Coast Guard Invitational.
In the men's weight throw, Jimmy Oreste (Jamaica, N.Y./) continued his dominance and took home the win throwing a mark of 16.50m. After an opening throw of 16.30m Oreste came back on his fifth throw, throwing his winning mark of 16.50m.
Liam Taggart (Wakefiled, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) took home the win for New Haven in the 3000m crossing with a winning time of 9:18.37.
Gabrielle Teel (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) finished second overall in women's long jump as New Haven continued to call the sand pit their home as Teel jumped 4.95m. Teel, who opened up with a jump of 4.92m, had her best mark on her final jump of the event with her jump of 4.95m.
The women's 4x200m relay team of Wilnye Joseph (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck), Christina Crowley, Crystal Sarblah (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton), and Hollisa Liburd (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) finished second overall running a combined time of 1:55.10.
New Haven took a pair of spots in the high jump, as D'Jir Delisser finished second overall clearing 1.51m and teammate Isbella Bostic finished third overall clearing 1.46m.
Ashley Craig (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) in the women's weight throw with a mark of 12.70m saved her best throw for her final attempt and finished second overall in the meet. Alanah Weaver (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) finished third overall with a mark of 12.41m having her best throw come on her fifth attempt.
Daniel Enrico (Milford, Conn./Foran) finished third overall in the men's triple jump, as Enrico started strong with a jump of 12.60m before jumping his best mark on his final jump, jumping 12.82m to secure a third place finish.
In the women's pole vault, Molly Clark (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) finished third overall clearing 2.80m. After clearing her opening height of 2.50m on her first attempt, Clark followed that up with clearing 2.65m as well on her first attempt and then clearing her third place mark of 2.80m on her first attempt.
In high gear, the teams return to action for another dual meet weekend as things kick off for the blue and gold on Friday, January 24 in New York at the Dr. Sander Scorcher Invitational. That meet will conclude on Saturday, January 25. In addition the Chargers will also travel to Middletown Connecticut on Saturday, January 25 to compete at the Wesleyan Indoor Invitational.
