CHICAGO, Ill. – New Haven Volleyball took a trip to the Windy City on Friday night, where it played its first match of the weekend double-header against the Chicago State Cougars. New Haven came out on top 3-1.
The Chargers came out strong with 16 kills and winning the first set 27-25. They were hot and won the second set 25-18. The Cougars tried to come back as they won the third set, but New Haven finished off the match, winning the fourth set 25-16.
Lauren MacKellar (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Northville) and
Victoria Trunkl (Sao Jose Dos Campos, Sau Paulo, Brazil) put up 10 kills apiece.
Kassadi Avent (Woolwich, NJ) also led the way with nine kills.
Juli De Acharan (Sevilla, Spain/IES Nestor Almendros) put on a stellar performance with 14 assists and four service aces.
Naliah Grannell (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) and MacKellar stood sturdy at the net with four blocks each, and
Josie Foster (Kurwongbah, Australia) also contributed with three. The back row was anchored by
Sophia Patitucci (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and
Payton Malinoski (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township), with 12 digs and 11 digs, respectively.
