WALTHAM, MA – The University of New Haven Chargers traveled to the suburbs of Boston where they would drop both games of Sunday's doubleheader against the Falcons of Bentley University.
GAME ONE:
After falling behind 1-0 in the third inning, the Chargers got a run across in both the fifth and sixth innings and a pair in the seventh.
A solo shot off the bat of
Casey Cerruto (Torrington, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) got things rolling for the Chargers in the fifth. A productive out from Casey McGugan in the sixth inning gave UNH a 2-1 lead.
Tyler Wells' (Danville, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) sacrifice fly in the seventh made it a 3-1 game before
Mike Christian (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) brought home Kenny Franquiz on a single to left field.
The Falcons began to claw back in the eighth, and it began with a solo home run, cutting the Chargers lead in half.
Bentley scored three runs in the ninth and walked it off on a bases-loaded walk.
Jafar Vohra (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) suffered the loss, going 1.2 innings, allowing four runs (all earned), three walks, and four hits.
GAME TWO:
Game two followed a similar storyline as game one, with the Falcons trailing heading into the bottom of the final inning before walking off the Chargers.
Bentley kicked off the scoring in game two, getting a three-run homer in the bottom of the third to go ahead 3-0.
In the top of the fourth, the Chargers got all three back, thanks to an error by the Falcons and a
Tyler Wells (Danville, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) RBI single. The Falcons shortstop committed an error on a ball hit by Kenny Franquiz that allowed McIntire and Cerruto to come around and score unearned runs.
A
Cole Maucere (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) walk in the top of the sixth gave the Chargers a 4-3, with Cerruto being forced in.
With a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh, Matt Minio allowed a walk-off two-run homer to end the game and give the Chargers their second-straight loss, 5-4.
