University of New Haven Athletics Announces Leadership Transition for Football Program

The University of New Haven Department of Athletics announced a leadership transition in its football program. Head coach Chris Pincince will no longer lead the team. Defensive coordinator Mark Powell has been named interim head football coach.

"On behalf of Charger Athletics, I would like to thank Coach Pincince for the many contributions he made to our football program over the last 11 years, and we wish him well in his future endeavors," said Devin Crosby, director of athletics. "Ultimately, we believe this is the right decision for our program. We're confident Coach Powell will uphold the New Haven football tradition of excellence and lead the program through the NCAA Division I transition complexities."

Pincince compiled a 76-24 record, including a 65-18 mark in the Northeast-10.

Powell joined the Chargers football program in February as defensive coordinator. He previously served as defensive coordinator at Fordham and Austin Peay, which both compete at the FCS level. Powell also worked in the SEC at Mississippi State.

A national head coaching search will take place at the conclusion of the 2025 season.
